What is in the picture.
Every poster is painted from a written brief. This is the one Portland was drawn from.
- The view
- From the Pittock Mansion overlook in the West Hills, looking east and slightly down across downtown to the Cascades.
- The subject
- The downtown grid at full saturation, pale concrete and glass towers in tight blocks, with green steel bridge trusses and lift towers crossing the brown Willamette.
- The light
- Late afternoon after rain, low sun from behind the viewer lighting tower faces warm, cloud shreds breaking up, wet streets holding sky colour.
- Behind it
- East side rooftops flattened to a low grid of warm grey and rust, the cinder cone of Mount Tabor and its firs reduced to simple green humps.
- The distance
- Mount Hood's glaciated cone in haze blue with a flat snow-white shoulder, low Cascade foothills as a single soft band beneath open sky.
On a wall.
Mounted and framed, lit by each room’s own light.
The print itself.
Paper
250 gsm museum-quality matte, acid-free, with a light natural texture that suits flat colour.
Sizes
12 x 16", 18 x 24", 24 x 36", framed or unframed. The two smaller sizes are 3:4 and the largest is 2:3, so each is composed for its own shape rather than cropped from the other.
Printing
Produced to order by the press nearest the delivery address and shipped flat or framed. The artwork is upscaled before it goes to press, never generated large.
How it was made
A language model writes the composition brief and a diffusion model paints the artwork. The house style, palette, depth rules and typesetting are ours, applied the same way to every poster. The titles are never painted; they are composited afterwards as vector outlines.
